The story
As many of you know, we were fortunate enough to win a wedding package from Union Station, Brancato's Catering, Nolte's Bridal, and the downtown Marriott. After we heard that Mix 93.3 was holding a contest to determine the winner of this package, Tyler entered a 300 word essay about the two of us. After being notified that we were in the final three, we encouraged friends, family, and acquaintances to vote for us online. After the two week voting period, we learned that we won! Thanks to all who voted! This package includes the following:
  • Wedding reception at Sprint Festival Plaza (Union Station)
  • $200 toward wedding flowers (Union Station)
  • Catering, linens, and service for 250 (Brancato's Catering)
  • Veil and headpeice (Nolte's Bridal)
  • Two nights at the downtown Marriott (Kansas City Marriott)
The story that Tyler submitted is below:
"Do you want us to really play?" I asked.

The photographer replied, "Sure, that'll be fine."

It was springtime in Springfield, and I was a long-haired sophomore. A few roommates and friends had gathered for this photoshoot in my dormroom. A campus photographer was getting a picture of us playing MarioKart for a promotional residence hall poster. We fired up the Nintendo, started the game, and let the photographer shoot away. It was a fun fifteen minutes, but the event ended quickly and the photographer left.

A MONTH LATER

She was a resident assistant living on the twelfth floor of the university's tallest residence hall. One of her duties was to hang up posters and flyers from organizations around campus. On this particular day, she picked up a large stack of flyers to hang. Among the yoga class times and student government notices was a poster of six guys playing an old video game in a messy dormroom. One of them caught her eye (for reasons I'll never know), and she made a mental note to talk to him one day.

THREE MONTHS LATER

I was in Springfield during the summer, visiting a friend and crashing barbecues, when I was introduced to the cutest girl I've ever seen. She had freckles and the greatest smile ever. She told me she's a resident assistant.

TWENTY-EIGHT MONTHS AND A LIFETIME LATER

It was dark when we left the pizza place, so I proposed an idea: to look at downtown Kansas City from Liberty Memorial. She was up for the adventure, so we parked on the side of the hill and began climbing. At the top, we turned around in unison to see the city lights. It was here where I pulled out the ring and asked my best friend to marry me.

Listen to Tyler's reaction when he is told that we won the wedding package:
